Sen. Michael Baumgartner, R-Spokane, and Rep. Marcus Riccelli, D-Spokane, will hold a press conference on Tue., Dec. 2, to announce their bipartisan support for Washington State University’s proposed medical school in Spokane.
Riccelli and Baumgartner will discuss why they support an independent WSU medical school. They will also outline proposed legislation that provides $2.5 million for the school and amend the 1917 law restricting public medical education in the state to the University of Washington.
Baumgartner is currently vice chair of the Senate Ways and Means Committee, which is responsible for writing the state budget. Riccelli is vice chair of the House Health Care Committee.
The news conference will take place at 11 a.m. on Tue., Dec. 2, in the Pharmaceutical & Biomedical Sciences Building at the Washington State University branch campus in Spokane, located at 205 E. Spokane Falls Blvd.
