OLYMPIA—State Rep. Marcus Riccelli (D-Spokane) has been re-elected Majority Deputy Whip of the state House of Representatives by his colleagues in Olympia. Riccelli, who also serves as Vice Chair of the Health Care & Wellness Committee and is a member of the Capital Budget and Transportation Committees, is serving his second term in the state House after being elected by the voters of the Third Legislative District.
“With so many big issues to tackle, from fully funding education and fulfilling our constitutional obligation to our children, to making sure our next generation is healthier than the last through our bills promoting Healthy Children and Healthy Families, I am honored to serve my colleagues in this position,” said Rep. Riccelli. “We need to continue to maintain a strong focus on creating sustainable jobs that provide for a future for Washington families and passing a transportation package that addresses our crumbling roads and bridges while expanding transit options. We have a lot to do to ensure that everyone in Washington is treated fairly and equally and that opportunity is available to all.”
The second term lawmaker will assist both Democratic and Republican colleagues to ensure that floor debate moves forward in an efficient fashion.
Born and raised in Spokane, Riccelli graduated from Mead High School in 1996 and from Gonzaga University in 2000. He holds a Bachelor’s in Business Administration Degree (Gonzaga), and in 2007 he earned a Master of Public Administration Degree (University of Washington).
Outside his duties with the Legislature, Riccelli is active in Spokane’s downtown Rotary 21, and he has served as a Big Brother with Big Brothers and Sisters of Spokane. Among many other community-service activities, he is active with the Spokane YMCA Youth Legislature Delegation.
Riccelli and his wife, Amanda, have two young children.
