OLYMPIA – Building on four years of bipartisan cooperation and leadership, State Representative Marcus Riccelli (D – Spokane) was elected Majority Whip by Democratic colleagues today. Riccelli previously served as Deputy Whip, and is Vice Chair of the Health Care & Wellness committee and a member of Capital Budget and Transportation. He also chairs the LEAP committee, which is responsible for facilitating transparency and accountability in legislative budget processes in Washington State
“I’m honored my colleagues have placed their confidence in me to fill this vital leadership role,” said Riccelli after the vote. “Eastern Washington needs strong voices for good, family-wage jobs, protecting small businesses, and improving our health care system. I am proud to be that voice and will continue to fight as the Majority Whip for Spokane-area values on important issues facing our entire state. We have much to do this year and I’m ready to get to work.”
Born and raised in Spokane, Riccelli graduated from Mead High School in 1996 and from Gonzaga University in 2000. He holds a Bachelor’s in Business Administration Degree (Gonzaga), and in 2007 he earned a Master of Public Administration Degree (University of Washington). Riccelli is a Project Manager for CHAS, the Community Health Association of Spokane, and previously worked at the Northeast Community Center as Operations Manager.
Outside his duties with the Legislature, Riccelli is an active youth sports coach, a Rotarian, and serves on the board of the North Spokane YMCA.
Riccelli and his wife, Amanda, have two young children.
