OLYMPIA—Gov. Bob Ferguson put pen to paper on Friday, April 11, to make House Bill 1553 a new state law.
“This is about helping the dairy farmers in our state, and every family who puts local milk and cheese into their fridge every week,” said Rep. Adison Richards (D-Gig Harbor), the author of House Bill 1553.
The bill extends a dairy inspection program through the year 2031 so dairy operations, such as those in rural Port Orchard, can get their products to the people of Washington and to neighboring states without any issue.
“Inspections protect the quality and safety of our dairy products,” Richards said. “And they protect local jobs, making sure there’s no issue with selling what comes from local dairy farms to consumers throughout the state and the region.”
