Rep. Emily Alvarado and Rep.-elect Natasha Hill to serve as vice chairs

OLYMPIA – State Representative Chris Stearns (D-Auburn) has been elected to lead the House Members of Color Caucus (MOCC) in the Washington State Legislature. Stearns, who was first elected in 2022, was also recently elected Speaker Pro Tempore designate.

“I am honored to take the role of Chair of the Members of Color Caucus,” said Rep. Stearns. “The people’s legislature should represent the diversity of the population we serve. The MOCC will continue to voice and respond to the needs of Washington communities who may not always have had a seat at the table, or in their government.”

The MOCC plays a strong role in shaping the HDC’s approach to equitable legislation, budget priorities, and elevating voices of vulnerable communities. As chair, Stearns leads the MOCC’s efforts and advance policy priorities that help create a more fair and just system that allows all Washingtonians to benefit.

In addition, the MOCC elected Rep. Emily Alvarado (D-Seattle) and Rep-elect Natasha Hill (D-Spokane) as vice chairs. Alvarado is returning to the role, having served in the position in her first term after her election in 2022. Alvarado introduced last biennium’s MOCC priority legislation, HB 2114, to create stability in the rental market. Hill was elected in 2024 and will serve as vice chair in her first year as a state legislator.

Currently comprised of 26 members, the MOCC represents more than 45 percent of the House Democratic Caucus.
