Honoring our veterans today; grateful to them everyday

Washington state Korean War MemorialOn the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918, a treaty was signed and World War I ended.

This is why we now celebrate Veterans Day on Nov. 11, every year, honoring those who have served our country.

There are military bases, active-duty GI’s and veterans in every corner of our state. Washington is home to battleships and nuclear submarines, Army soldiers and Air Force flyers—and home would not be the same without those who fought, bled and died defending our nation.

Countless Washington men and women who’ve served since “The War to End All Wars” in World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan, and at posts from Germany to Japan, have come back home after their service to reconnect with family and friends.

Other veterans have honored us by choosing to make Washington state their final stop, their last home after a lifetime of traveling wherever and whenever they were needed. Thank you for choosing to live in Washington. Know that you’re welcome here and always will be.

And to all American veterans, thank you. Not just today. Every day.
