Washington employment continues to move in positive direction

Slowly but surely, Washington’s unemployment rate is creeping downward.

Economists with the Employment Security Department reported last week that Washington employers added about 6,700 new jobs in March. That’s on top of about 5,800 new positions added in both January and February this year. The statewide unemployment rate now stands at 6.3%.

Job growth varied by sector, with the strongest increases seen in professional and business services, manufacturing, and retail.

Job losses were reported in government, public education, and financial activities.
