Washington loses a great woman

Speaker Pro-tem Val Ogden holds a pro-forma session outside after the Nisqually Earthquake closed the Capitol Building in 2001.

Former Speaker Pro-tem of the House, Rep. Val Ogden, died on Wednesday. Her birth certificate says she was 90 years of age, but to most people who knew her, Val was ageless.

She served 12 years in the House, and was a tireless advocate for social justice, children, and the less-fortunate. She was a great mentor to other women legislators and a strong representative of her Clark County constituents, helping drive state dollars to local projects.

Val was married to her husband, Dan, for 67 years. They have three children, six grandchildren, and six great-grand children.

Here is more on her life.
