Gov. Jay Inslee recently announced that the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices is awarding Washington state a $170,000 grant to bolster science, technology, engineering and math education (STEM), and launch the STEM Education Innovation Alliance approved by the Legislature last year.
Inslee highlighted the economic importance of STEM-based industries such as aerospace, agriculture, clean energy, life sciences and manufacturing in our state. He warned that these industries must not be taken for granted, adding that this grant will help ensure that Washington’s education system keeps students ahead of the curve to provide employers access to a world-class workforce.
Washington is one of only 14 states to receive NGA STEM grant funding. The grant application included letters of support from more than 13 industry, business, government and education organizations.
