It was a period of disfunction in state government and BAD Republican bills and policies, but in 2018, after five years of Republican leadership in the Senate, Democrats took back leadership in the Washington State Legislature.

With this new majority, Democrats were determined to address pressing concerns, including voting rights legislation, protection from discrimination, affordable housing and school construction, and addressing gun violence.

While Washington House Democrats were fighting for reproductive care, LGBTQ+ communities, and environmental protections, Republicans at the federal level were overturning long-held rights, breaking apart families, and putting our health and environment at risk. Democrats in Olympia passed groundbreaking legislation to protect the environment, from moving the state on the path to 100 percent clean energy to making polluters pay for their pollution. Led by the Trump Administration, Republicans overturned the right to an abortion, forcing Washington Democrats to take further action to ensure YOUR right to reproductive choice and fight back…

After victories against the Trump Administration and defeating BAD Republican bills proposed in Olympia, the Democratic Alliance passed historic laws protecting abortion in Washington state. Despite the Dobbs decision, people and medical providers are protected despite Republican bills attempting to roll back reproductive care. That is why Washington state is ranked as having the best economy in the nation, one of the top five states for working parents, the best state to find a job, and the state with the safest schools in the country. Despite Republican opposition to many of the bills and budgets Democrats passed, these rankings are the result of policies championed by Washington House Democrats, the majority that believes in a brighter and better future for ALL Washington families because they PUT PEOPLE FIRST.
