Hey, 34th District—Let’s Get to Work!

A message from your new State Representative, Brianna Thomas

Hi Neighbors,

Rep. Brianna Thomas as a page with Representative Gigi Talcott.
Rep. Brianna Thomas as a page with Rep. Gigi Talcott (R-28th District).

I’m Brianna Thomas, and I’m thrilled to introduce myself as your brand-new representative for the 34th Legislative District! This isn’t my first time walking the halls of the Legislature. I got my start as a teen Legislative Page for Representative Gigi Talcott back in 1998. Fast forward to 2010, and I was getting my bearings as an intern for Senator Steve Hobbs (44th LD) and then working behind the scenes as a Legislative Assistant for then-Representative Bob Hasegawa (11th District).  I went on to serve as Chief of Staff to Seattle City Council President Gonzalez, a policy advisor in the Seattle Mayor’s Office, field director at the Washington Low Income Housing Alliance Action Fund, and a campaign manager for the $15 minimum wage in SeaTac. Now I’m here — ready to keep working for you.

I was able to work my way up from page, to intern, legislative assistant, all the way to state representative. If a teen in your life is interested in becoming a page, the Washington State Legislature’s Page Program is now accepting applications for 2025.

This unique opportunity allows students aged 14-16 to spend a week in Olympia, supporting legislative activities, attending the Page School, and gaining hands-on experience in state government. The deadline is March 31, 2025.

Apply today to join this proud legislative tradition.

Fixing Our Ferries: Let’s be real—our ferry system, the largest network in America is crucial and part of what makes our region special, and right now, it’s struggling. I’m committed to finding real solutions, so our neighbors on Vashon can get where they need to go without the endless waits and uncertainty.

Affordable Housing & Homeownership: Buying a home shouldn’t feel like winning the lottery. I’ll fight to protect homeownership opportunities for everyday people—not just big corporations—so families can put down roots in the communities they love.

Fighting for Workers: Whether it’s fair wages, worker protections, or making sure parents have access to affordable childcare, I’m here to stand up for the people who make our communities thrive.

Bills (so far):

House Bill 1732
This bill aims to protect homeownership by preventing large corporations and investment companies from buying up too many single-family homes in Washington. Under this bill, businesses that already own 25 or more homes wouldn’t be allowed to buy more. However, nonprofits, builders creating more housing, and those fixing up rundown homes would be exempt. If a company breaks this rule, it could face legal action under consumer protection laws. The state’s Department of Commerce will also study the issue and suggest more ways to keep single-family homes available for everyday buyers.

House Bill 1733
This bill increases financial assistance for people, businesses, farms, and nonprofits forced to relocate due to government projects. Under this bill, displaced individuals and organizations can receive payments to cover moving expenses, lost property, and the costs of finding a new location. The maximum reimbursement for reestablishing a small business, nonprofit, or farm is raised from $50,000 to $200,000, ensuring better support for those affected by displacement. The bill also allows eligible individuals to opt for a fixed payment instead of itemized reimbursements, providing more flexibility in how they manage their relocation.

Stay in Touch:

I’ve seen firsthand what happens when people are forced to put their dreams on hold—whether it’s because of broken systems, unfair policies, or just not having a seat at the table. That’s why I’m here—to make sure the people of the 34th don’t have to wait any longer for the change they deserve.

Catch me in Olympia, shoot me an email, or find me on social media (I have a new page!)—I’m here, I’m listening, and I’m ready to fight for our district.
