Olympia – Wednesday, Rep. Joe Timmons, D-Bellingham, was elected by members of the House Democratic Caucus in the Washington State Legislature to serve in a caucus leadership role as one of its Assistant Speakers Pro Tempore. This leadership role means Timmons will help preside over Floor debate during the 2025 session.
“I am honored to be selected as Assistant Speaker Pro Tempore and I look forward to supporting the Speaker Pro Tempore and Deputy Speaker Pro Tempore in this role,” Timmons said. “I am committed to presiding over the House Floor with fairness, and to ensuring that the House of Representatives remains a place where ideas are expressed respectfully and where all members have a voice.”
The Pro Tempore presides over some sessions of the House as needed when the Speaker of the House is unable to do so. In this capacity, the Assistant Speaker Pro Tempore helps the Speaker Pro Tempore keep the process running efficiently, smoothly and respectfully when lawmakers are debating and voting on legislation on the House Floor.
Timmons is a second-term lawmaker representing the 42nd legislative district. This is his first session serving in a caucus leadership role. Timmons is also a member of the House Transportation, Rules, Post Secondary Education & Workforce, and Housing committees.
The 2025 legislative session begins Monday, January 13, 2025.
