OLYMPIA – Rep. Sharon Wylie (D-Vancouver) is working to protect medical cannabis patients while ensuring tax fairness and regulatory integrity. House bill 1341, which passed the House of Representatives earlier today, enhances oversight of the state’s medical cannabis tax exemption, allowing the Liquor and Cannabis Board (LCB) and the Department of Health (DOH) to share data and verify eligibility.
The bill enables LCB to verify tax exemption eligibility through aggregate reports from DOH’s medical cannabis authorization database while maintaining strict privacy protections. The exemption from the 37% cannabis excise tax will remain in effect until June 30, 2029.
Rep. Wylie emphasized the importance of ensuring safe and accessible medical cannabis. ‘’This legislation ensures that qualifying patients receive their exemption while preventing abuse. This bill is a step forward in balancing access with responsible oversight.”
