Callan infants and toddlers bill signed by governor

OLYMPIA— On March 19, Governor Inslee signed legislation to integrate supports for Washington infants and toddlers into the continuum of services for birth to five. House Bill 2787,  sponsored by Rep. Lisa Callan, D-Issaquah, transfers the Early Support for Infants and Toddlers program from the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction to the Department of Children, Youth, and Families.

“I am thrilled this bill was signed into law because we understand early supports for infants, toddlers, and their families are integral in ensuring our youth have the best futures possible,” said Callan. “The consolidation of this program is an important step to helping our littlest Washingtonians get the support they need when they need it. I am grateful for the engagement of stakeholders as the details were finalized. This commitment means our youngest kids will have access to quality early intervention.”

House bill 2787 received overwhelming bipartisan support in both the House and the Senate. It goes into effect on September 1, 2020.
