Legislative leaders from each caucus spoke with reporters earlier this week during the annual Associated Press Legislative Preview. The leadership panel answered questions from reporters on several issues that will face the Legislature over the next 105 days.
After opening his remarks by stating, “Our caucus is organized and energized,” Speaker Frank Chopp outlined the top five priorities for House Democrats this session:
- Support basic education
- Expand health care through the Affordable Care Act and the Basic Health Plan
- Strengthen the safety net to protect the most vulnerable
- Provide opportunities for young people through our colleges and universities
- Create jobs and strengthen the economy through investment in infrastructure
