Friends and neighbors,
It is a sincere pleasure to be returning to Olympia to serve you and the 46th legislative district. On January 13th, the 2025 legislative session will commence. To best represent you and address the issues that matter most, I hope you’ll consider joining me at the following events.
Pre-Session Town Hall
On January 9th, Rep. Pollet, Senator Valdez, and I will host a pre-session town hall! This is a meaningful opportunity to learn more about our legislative priorities, discuss issues impacting our community, and ask us questions. The event will be hosted at the North Seattle College Auditorium (9600 College Way N., Seattle, WA 98103) from 6-8 pm.
Accessibility Information: Parking is available in front of the library entrance. For those traveling by bus, transit info is available here. The auditorium is located immediately to the right of the main entrance. Wheelchair lifts and elevators are available. I hope to see you there!
Supporting Middle Eastern & North African Communities
In 2023, I worked with the University of Washington Tacoma to secure legislative funding for a study about inequities in poverty, access to service, language barriers, and access to justice for individuals of Middle Eastern descent. I’m thrilled to share that the report is complete and grateful for all who participated to make this possible.
Calling all Middle Eastern and North African people in Washington: On January 17th from 6-7 pm, I will be joined by researchers from the University of Washington to discuss the result of this study, possible next steps, and new legislation I will be introducing.
Please join us at the Othello-UW Commons (located at 4200 S Othello St, Seattle, WA 98118) to be in community and plan for the year ahead.
Accessibility Information: We will meet in Studios A & B on the ground floor. The Othello-UW Commons is located on the street level with no entrance steps. Bathrooms are wheelchair accessible. There are no stairs to the restroom. One of the bathrooms are for women and the other is an all-gender single room. All parking is street parking, and currently there are no designated disabled parking spaces. Please reach out to Sunshine.Cheng@leg.wa.gov if you have any questions.
If you plan to join us, please RSVP here to help us learn your priorities, request accommodations or interpretation, and let us know if you have any dietary restriction. Light refreshments will be provided.
What Matters Most to You?
I’ve said it before and will say it again: our district is fortunate to have engaged citizens who actively participate in the public process! Its because of your feedback and participation that I can live my value of ‘nothing about us without us’. As we transition from the legislative interim to the upcoming session, December is a crucial month for staying civically engaged. I encourage you to take a few minutes to complete this brief survey and follow me on Facebook for the latest updates.
Thank you for all you do! I hope you have a meaningful New Years.
In Service,
Rep. Darya Farivar
