Washington State Legislature Passes Comprehensive Transportation Budget

OLYMPIA—The Washington State Legislature has approved a comprehensive transportation budget to support statewide mobility, infrastructure, and sustainability goals. The budget passed both the House and Senate with bipartisan support and now heads to Governor Bob Ferguson’s desk for consideration.

“This transportation budget represents a significant investment in the future of Washington’s communities, economy, and environment,” said Rep. Jake Fey, Chair of the House Transportation Committee. “It funds long-overdue maintenance and preservation projects, supports transit and multimodal infrastructure, and modernizes how we invest in safety and mobility.”

Even with these added revenues, we must still temporarily delay some very needed projects. Critical projects to the state like the Interstate Bridge in Vancouver, the Spokane North-South Freeway, the Gateway Project, and the I-5 Fort Lewis Project will be able to proceed with further construction. Together, these transportation bills support critical projects that will ease congestion, enhance transit access, reduce emissions, and ensure safe, efficient travel across Washington.

“With more people moving to our state and more pressure on our infrastructure, this plan provides a sustainable path forward,” said Rep. Fey. “It also reflects our values—prioritizing safety, equity, and climate-conscious investments.”

“This transportation budget is a reflection of our shared commitment to keeping Washington moving—safely, sustainably, and equitably,” said Sen. Marko Liias, Chair of the Senate Transportation Committee. “We’re investing in the essential infrastructure that connects our communities, supports our economy, and prepares us for the future. I’m proud of the collaborative work that brought this budget together, and I look forward to seeing these investments deliver real results for Washingtonians.”

The budget also incorporates the contributions of the late Senator Bill Ramos, who served on the Transportation Budget Cabinet in both the House and Senate during his tenure in the Legislature. To honor Sen. Ramos, legislative budget writers dedicated the budget bill in his memory. The Governor is expected to take action on the legislation in the coming days.
