Researchers said deaths could reach 2.8 million by Jan. 1, which is about 1.9 million more from now until the end of the year. Continue reading at KIRO 7.
Why Washington state won’t rush out a Covid-19 vaccine before it’s proven
Vaccines for Covid-19 are still in development but the federal government wants states to be ready to distribute them by November 1. Washington state health officials say they’re getting ready, but will not distribute any vaccine until it’s proven safe and effective. This week, state health officials outlined what they’re doing to prepare. Continue reading at KUOW. (Associate Press)

COVID-19 has killed more police officers this year than all other causes combined, statistics show
In a speech this week in Pittsburgh, Joe Biden linked the Trump administration’s mismanagement of the coronavirus to its handling of protests and riots with a surprising statistic: “More cops have died from COVID this year than have been killed on patrol,” he said. The Democratic presidential nominee’s claim is true, according to data compiled by the Officer Down Memorial Page and the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, two nonprofits that have tracked law enforcement fatalities for decades. Durkan calls Trump’s threat to cut federal funding to Seattle, other cities ‘unlawful’
Shortly after President Donald Trump’s Wednesday threat to cut federal funding to “lawless” cities, including Seattle, Mayor Jenny Durkan called the news an attempt to distract and harm cities during a time when the nation “desperately needs healing.” Trump signed the memo Wednesday, instructing Attorney General William Barr to develop a list of “anarchist jurisdictions” that “permitted violence and the destruction of property to persist and have refused to undertake reasonable measures” to restore order. Washington the best state for working families in pandemic, report says. Here’s why
A lot of workers have been struggling during the coronavirus pandemic across the U.S., but some states have offered them more help than others, according to a study by OXFAM. Researchers ranked all 50 states, Washington, DC and Puerto Rico using three policy metrics to determine which areas were the best and worst to work in during the COVID-19 pandemic, the nonprofit said. The best state for workers was Washington state, according to the report. Continue reading at The Bellingham Herald.
