Inslee, Brown to sign I-5 Bridge agreement Monday in Vancouver
Washington Gov. Jay Inslee and Oregon Gov. Kate Brown said Friday that they will be in Vancouver on Monday to announce a joint effort to replace the Interstate 5 Bridge. The two governors, both Democrats, are scheduled to sign a letter of intent toward replacing the bridge’s twin spans with a modern crossing that would ease congestion and be better able to withstand a strong earthquake, according to news releases from the governors’ offices. I-976 passed, so when do $30 car-tab fees go into effect? That’s a good question
Initiative 976, which caps annual state and local car tab fees at $30, takes effect Dec. 5, but that doesn’t mean vehicle owners the next day are going to be writing a check for $30 to renew their plates. In addition to making computer changes, the state Department of Licensing is working with the Attorney General’s Office and the state Department of Revenue to “understand the impacts of the initiative” and answer the “unknowns,” said DOL spokesperson Christine Anthony. The Supreme Court on Tuesday turned down an appeal from the gun industry intended to block a lawsuit from families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims. The decision lets stand a groundbreaking ruling from the Connecticut Supreme Court that said the manufacturer of the Bushmaster AR-15-style semiautomatic rifle can be sued and potentially held liable for the 2012 massacre in Newtown, Conn.
