WHY: July marks the one-year anniversary of when the 988 number became available for use as the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Available 24 hours a day, 988 provides free, confidential support with trained crisis counselors and is an alternative to 911. As the new line continues its rollout, this program brings together advocates and policymakers to discuss the success and challenges of the first year of the 988 line.
