We are already at the half way point of session. We are busy as our bills move through the legislative process. I’m pleased that many of my bills are being heard in the Senate.
Below are some updates of our work, as well as an invite to our Town Hall meeting this coming Saturday.

Helping reduce impact of increased SeaTac air traffic
SeaTac International Airport is one of the fastest growing airports in the nation. It is important we understand impact of that growth on our aviation systems and communities. In 2009 the state projected that by 2030 we would have 30 million passengers traveling through SeaTac. In 2018, we reached 50 million. This is why the House passed House Bill 1847, which helps expand the dimensions of airplane noise impact areas to help reduce noise. This bill was heard this past week in the Senate Committee on Local Government. Additionally, Senate Bill 5370, which would encourage expansion of additional airport sites across our state, passed out of the Senate where it currently awaits a hearing in the House Transportation Committee. This is a companion bill to legislation I sponsored earlier this session, House Bill 1683. |
Constituent Corner: King County Sexual Assault Resource Center
One of my favorite things about serving our community as a legislator is getting to meet with constituents from around the 33rd Legislative District. I recently met with folks from the King County Sexual Assault Resource Center to discuss improvements we can make to better support survivors and prevent sexual assault.
This has been a huge priority for me for a number of years. I am proud to say that legislation I sponsored, House Bill 1166, to help end our rape kit backlog and hold violent perpetrators accountable, passed unanimously from the House floor. The legislation will now progress to the Senate Committee on Law and Justice, and we hope to see it land on Gov. Inslee’s desk soon.
