Time to get to work

Friends,

Last Monday, I had the privilege of being sworn in as one of the State Representatives from the 5th Legislative District. I truly believe this is your House and this is your office. I take the trust you have placed in me seriously. I am your representative. I am fighting to put your interests first. Because of that, I want to start a conversation with you. I am planning to update you regularly about my priorities here in Olympia, and to listen to your thoughts about the issues facing our communities and our state.

My priorities and committee assignments

I have been appointed to the Transportation, the College & Workforce Development, and the Rural Development, Agriculture & Natural Resources committees. Serving in these committees will allow me to be an even more effective advocate for the needs of the residents of the 5th District.

First, I want to tackle our traffic congestion problem by pushing for quick completion of the Highway 18/Interstate 90 interchange. Currently, this interchange is a major choke point for commuters in our communities. The faster we complete this upgrade the better. I also want to secure funding for other areas that experience heavy congestion, like expanding Highway 18 to four full lanes and improvements to Highway 169. Our traffic causes daily headaches for commuters and poses a public safety hazard. We have to address the problem now.

We all know King County is facing a housing crisis. As legislators, we need to take steps to address this problem now. This starts with property tax reduction and the development of more affordable housing options.

Additionally, I want to create lower-cost paths to family-wage jobs for students and our neighbors going through career transitions. We can do this through apprenticeships and certification programs, community colleges, as well as working to make four-year degrees more affordable.

I work for you

I am dedicated to being your voice in Olympia. I want to hear from you. Here is a constituent feedback form to get your thoughts on a few topics.  I want to hear your ideas, tell me what you think.

As always, I look forward to hearing from you. Please, don’t hesitate to reach out. You can contact me, or my Legislative Assistant Hunter Cooper, at Bill.Ramos@leg.wa.gov or 360-786-7852.

Sincerely,

Rep. Bill Ramos
