Fighting for Our Kids, Our Families, and Our Future

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

As your state representative, I’m fighting for what matters most: strong public schools, economic stability for working families, and a sustainable future for all of us. As the 2025 legislative session wraps up, I want to share what we’ve accomplished together — and how I’ll keep pushing for progress.

📚 The Fight for Equitable School Funding Continues

This year was my first serving on the House Education Committee — and I took on this role with one purpose in mind: to fight for our kids in public schools.

Our schools are the heart of our communities. Yet far too many students face overcrowded classrooms, underfunded programs, and outdated facilities. That’s why I continue to push for full, fair, and equitable funding for every student, no matter their ZIP code.

I also spoke on the floor in support of HB 1296, which aimed to improve school safety and well-being, especially for students in historically underserved communities. You can watch that speech here.

💼 Focused on the Pocketbook Priorities of Working Families

The cost of living is rising — and families in the 30th District are feeling it. That’s why I supported policies that put working people first and help folks stay housed, fed, and financially stable:

  • Food Security: I fought to fully fund food programs that keep students nourished, ensure senior nutrition programs continue, and keep food banks well stocked across the state. Hunger shouldn’t be a barrier to learning or healthy aging.
  • Rent Stabilization: I proudly voted YES on HB 1217, which limits extreme rent hikes and gives tenants more stability. Families shouldn’t be forced to choose between paying rent and putting food on the table.
  • Public Safety with Community Values: I was a chief architect of HB 2015, now signed into law, which invests $100 million in local public safety grants. These funds will support hiring and training for police officers, while also investing in community-based violence prevention programs — because safety and accountability must go hand in hand.
  • Tax Fairness: I voted against raising gas taxes, property taxes, and grocery taxes — because working families are already carrying too much. Instead, I supported taxing Washington’s wealthiest corporations so they finally pay their fair share.

🌿 Fighting for a Future That Includes Us All

Our environmental future must be equitable, sustainable, and inclusive — and I fought to make sure every community has a seat at the table:

  • HB 1539 – Wildfire Mitigation: I prime-sponsored this bill to create a statewide Wildfire Mitigation and Resiliency Standards Work Group, charged with reducing wildfire risks through coordinated planning, prevention, and community resilience. As wildfires intensify due to climate change, we need proactive, inclusive solutions. I’m proud to say this was my first bill to pass this session.
  • EPR Equity Amendment: We passed an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) policy this year to improve recycling and reduce plastic waste. I successfully authored and passed an amendment ensuring that equity and environmental justice are part of implementation — so that no community bears more environmental harm than another.
  • Chairing Agriculture & Natural Resources: In my first year as Chair of the House Agriculture & Natural Resources Committee, I led with a commitment to sustainability, food security, and rural resilience. We advanced bipartisan solutions to support farmers, protect water and soil health, and ensure our working lands thrive for generations to come.

I’m proud of the progress we’ve made together this session — but the work doesn’t stop here. I came to Olympia to fight for working families, for every kid in every classroom, and for a future that includes all of us. Whether you live in a city center, a quiet cul-de-sac, or a rural community, you deserve policies that put people first.

As your representative, I’ll keep showing up, speaking out, and doing the hard work to build a Washington that works for everyone — not just the wealthy and well-connected.

My door is always open. I’d love to hear from you — your ideas, your concerns, and your hopes for our community.
