Friends and neighbors,
With the pandemic continuing to affect our communities, this month’s newsletter is all about sharing resources for families, renters, small business owners and others.
But first, I want to take a moment to talk about HB 1310, a bill the Legislature passed last session that requires police officers to use de-escalation tactics and make deadly force a last resort.
Thank you to all those who have reached out to share their thoughts on the new law. And for those who have expressed concerns, I hear you. I’m working diligently to listen to everyone in our community as we adjust to these changes. Please know this: I’m committed to protecting the safety and well-being of all of us in Whatcom County.
And now, here’s some help that’s available if you need it:
—Rent assistance and landlord relief
—Food assistance and meals for kids
—Small business and nonprofit resources
—Child tax credit sign up tool
—COVID-19 vaccine appointments
—Mental and emotional well-being support
—Wildfire information and preparedness
Thanks for reading! Please don’t hesitate to reach out at 360-746-3744 or Alicia.Rule@leg.wa.gov. It’s an honor to serve the 42nd Legislative District.
