Sharing resources and listening to you

Friends and neighbors,

With the pandemic continuing to affect our communities, this month’s newsletter is all about sharing resources for families, renters, small business owners and others.

But first, I want to take a moment to talk about HB 1310, a bill the Legislature passed last session that requires police officers to use de-escalation tactics and make deadly force a last resort.

Thank you to all those who have reached out to share their thoughts on the new law. And for those who have expressed concerns, I hear you. I’m working diligently to listen to everyone in our community as we adjust to these changes. Please know this: I’m committed to protecting the safety and well-being of all of us in Whatcom County.

And now, here’s some help that’s available if you need it:

Rent assistance and landlord relief

Food assistance and meals for kids

Small business and nonprofit resources

Child tax credit sign up tool

COVID-19 vaccine appointments

Mental and emotional well-being support

Wildfire information and preparedness

COVID-19 travel advisories

Thanks for reading! Please don’t hesitate to reach out at 360-746-3744 or Alicia.Rule@leg.wa.gov. It’s an honor to serve the 42nd Legislative District.
