Dear friends and neighbors,
As a mother of three, I have always been, and will always stand committed to protecting children, supporting families, and ensuring safer communities. I’ve introduced the following legislation to invest in public safety and child protection measures, so that every child grows up in a safe, affordable community with opportunities to succeed:
Reducing mental health crisis treatment delays (House Bill 1287): Inspired by a constituent, this bill streamlines coordination between law enforcement and health providers during mental health crises. Timely intervention is critical in these situations and strengthens our public safety system by ensuring more efficient responses during mental health emergencies. Investing $100 million in law enforcement and public safety (HB 1428): Washington ranks 51st in the nation for law enforcement staffing. This bill provides crucial funding to hire more officers and enhance public safety across our communities.
Improving child abuse risk assessments (HB 1544): Protecting children means making sure social workers and caseworkers have the latest evidence-based tools to assess risk and ensure child safety.
Addressing key threats from high-potency synthetic opioids (HB 1753): Fentanyl and synthetic opioids are devastating our communities—these drugs are designed to look like candy, leading to tragic and preventable deaths when children unknowingly ingest them. This bill strengthens protections to keep these deadly substances out of reach.
Protecting children in youth sports (HB 1803): My family has always been deeply involved in sports, and as a social worker, I know how critical they are to children’s mental and physical well-being. Ensuring our kids are protected from abuse while participating in sports is essential to fostering safe and healthy environments.
Strengthening cardiac emergency response plans in schools (HB 1863): Whether at a football game or a choir concert, schools bring together students, families, and community members. Having a clear, effective cardiac emergency response plan is another way we can safeguard our youth and their loved ones.
