Legislation on the Move!
We are in a crucial phase of the legislative session, with bills moving off the House floor. I’m hopeful that the Senate will also pass these important measures that I’ve sponsored:
✅ Quantum Industry Bill for the Future (HB 1360) This bill lays the groundwork for Washington’s leadership in quantum technology by:
- Establishing a nine-member advisory committee to drive economic development in the quantum sector.
- Providing recommendations to build a thriving quantum technology ecosystem and workforce.
- Creating a grant program within the Department of Commerce to help secure federal funding for quantum research and development.
✅ Five-Year Economic Development Plan (HB 1595) This legislation ensures a strategic, long-term approach to economic growth by:
- Directing the Department of Commerce to develop a five-year statewide economic development plan, with the first proposal due in November 2025.
- Forming a 15-member advisory committee to guide policy, hold public meetings, and recommend legislative action.
- Organizing an economic development summit to bring stakeholders together and foster a more integrated approach to economic planning.
We often operate in silos, and this initiative seeks to unify our efforts—knitting together economic strategies rather than compartmentalizing them.
