What an All Cuts Budget Means for WA

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

As we continue our work in Olympia, I want to take a moment to share some important updates with you—from our state’s budget decisions to local community highlights and upcoming events where we can connect.

Celebrating Women’s History Month

March is Women’s History Month—a time to honor the incredible contributions of women throughout history and in our communities today. Women have been at the forefront of progress in Washington, from advocating for workers’ rights to leading in science, business, and government. I encourage you to take a moment to celebrate the women in your life and recognize the work still ahead to achieve full equity.

What an All-Cuts Budget Would Mean for Washington

Washington state has the second most regressive tax code in the nation!

While Washington has been a leader in areas like education, fair labor practices, and environmental and civil rights protections, our tax system is lagging behind. The state’s budget deficit is directly tied to this outdated tax code.

We need an economy that benefits all Washingtonians, not just the wealthiest few.

Budgets reflect our priorities, and as we work toward a final state budget, it’s essential to understand the consequences of an “all-cuts” approach. Without new revenue, critical services such as education, health care, and public safety would face devastating cuts—harming our most vulnerable neighbors and hindering economic growth. I remain committed to responsible budgeting that ensures Washington stays a great place to live, work, and raise a family.

We don’t have to accept this. We can support policies and bills that protect everyone, invest in our future, and ensure that Washingtonians at all income levels benefit.

Supporting Veterans: The Origin of Heroes Café Shoreline

Shoreline has become home to a new gathering place for veterans: Heroes Café Shoreline. Inspired by its Lynnwood counterpart, this space was founded by Betsy Robertson and Ray Coffey to provide veterans with a sense of community, resources, and camaraderie. These monthly gatherings offer a welcoming environment for those who have served our country, ensuring they feel supported in civilian life. You can read more about the café’s origins here.
