LEGISLATIVE UPDATE: My Journey as Your New Representative

Dear friends and neighbors,

I am honored to share my first update with you as your newest lawmaker in the House of Representatives, advocating for our communities in the 48th legislative district.

Following my appointment by the King County Council, newly appointed Senator Slatter shared an insight that resonated with me: “Lawmakers give lots of speeches. Good policy isn’t a speech. It’s a conversation.” This wisdom underscores the essence of governance and how I plan to serve in Olympia. I want to express my deepest thanks to Senator Slatter, my seatmate Representative Walen, and the King County Council for this invaluable opportunity to initiate a meaningful dialogue. I will work hard on critical issues that matter most to our district, such as affordable and accessible housing, community safety, support for working families, and educational advancement.

To my constituents in the 48th District, I reaffirm my unwavering commitment to attentively listen to your concerns and serve as your advocate in the legislature. Like many within our community, I navigate life as a renter, a user of public transit, and a product of our public education system. While progress has been made by our state on many of these issues, many challenges remain.

We must strategically address the rising cost of living in our community. The interconnections between housing, childcare, healthcare, and overall quality of life are critical, necessitating comprehensive and sound solutions. I am dedicated to advancing policies that enhance early learning opportunities, elevate public education, and build pathways to economic stability. As the son of a special education preschool teacher and local business owner, I’ve witnessed the transformative power of community investment and the prioritization of people in fostering growth and innovation.

Whether you live in the 48th District or anywhere in Washington, you deserve the opportunity to thrive. It is my goal to collaborate with our community partners toward realizing these aspirations. I extend my gratitude to you for entrusting me with the responsibility of representing you in Olympia – let’s get to work!
