A New Chapter

Hey Team:

This month, I had the honor of being sworn in as your representative for the 43rd Legislative District. It’s a privilege to serve such a vibrant, diverse community. Our district is one of the most dynamic in Washington—home to students, public service employees, and working families navigating challenges like housing affordability and labor rights, all while striving to build a more inclusive and sustainable future.

I’m proud to be serving on the largest Legislative Black Caucus in the Western United States, working alongside my colleagues to dismantle systemic inequities. Our framework for racial equity tackles critical issues like economic opportunity, healthcare access, education, and justice—ensuring all communities in Washington have the chance to thrive. In his lifetime, Dr. King identified as a democratic socialist; and I’m proud to honor his legacy by becoming the first socialist elected to the Washington State Legislature since William H. Kingery in 1912.

As a son of working class parents and public schools like the University of Washington, my goal is to represent our collective voice with clarity, empathy, and a commitment to structural change. Together, we can take on the big issues, building a Washington state that works for everyone.

Honoring Dr. King’s Legacy

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I had the privilege of speaking about Dr. King’s enduring message of economic justice and civil rights. His legacy reminds us of the power of collective action and the importance of standing together for what is right. You can watch my remarks on TVW here.
