A Moment of Opportunity in Washington

Dear friends and neighbors,

The start of this legislative session comes at a time of deep uncertainty at the federal level. As we watch attacks on education funding, labor rights, and social programs unfold in Washington, D.C., our role in Washington state has never been clearer: we must step up, take action, and ensure that our state leads the way in protecting working people.

We do that by fighting for progressive revenue, ensuring corporate accountability, and investing in the programs that actually change lives. We cannot afford to play defense—we must move forward. That is the work ahead.

The stakes are high, but so is our capacity for change. By staying engaged, organizing, and demanding better, we can build a Washington that works for all of us—not just the wealthy few. I’m honored to be in this fight with you.

Progressive Revenue: Fund Programs for Working People

Right now, in Washington, D.C., the weight of injustice grows heavier every day—funding slashed, protections dismantled, the safety net unraveled. That weight is immense. But here, in Washington state, that very weight grants equal gravity to the work we are doing: with every investment in housing, education, and worker protections, we are laying the foundation for a future that is just, humane, and abundant.

This year, I am fighting for three progressive revenue policies to turn our shared values into action:

  1. A Trump-Proof Washington State Budget – Right now, my office is working with other members of the Finance Committee in the Washington State House of Representatives to Trump-proof state services that are in danger because of the instability we’ve seen from the other Washington. What that means is funding childcare, social housing, reproductive care, behavioral health services, and education with taxes on the ultra-wealthy. In coordination with Representative Parshley, we hope to unveil a major revenue proposal that will safeguard vital services – stay tuned!
  1. HB 1569 – Closing Corporate Tax Loopholes – Our tax code is riddled with secret doorways for the ultra-wealthy, backchannels that siphon money away from our communities and into corporate coffers. This bill ensures that we track those loopholes, hold corporations accountable, and redirect those lost dollars into our schools, housing, and public infrastructure—where they belong.
  1. HB 1858 – Legislation to Fund Homelessness Services – Housing is not a privilege; it is a human right. I am introducing a bill to fund low income housing in Washington by closing a corporate tax loophole that big banks benefit from. We cannot continue relying on emergency measures and stopgap solutions. The crisis demands real, long-term investment, and that is what I intend to fight for.
