“I was honored to speak today in support of ESHB 1313, Washington’s Paid Sick and Safe Leave bill, which provides paid leave for workers who are ill or caring for an ill family member.
An often overlooked but, in my eyes, equally important component of this bill is its beneficial impact on survivors of domestic violence.
Paid sick and safe leave can literally be a life line for those who are working their way out of abusive relationships.
Victims often need to take time off to recover and attend court hearings to ensure the abuser does not go free. Getting time off from work, without losing pay, is crucial in helping many victims of domestic abuse maintain safety and stability for themselves and their children.
I hope you take a moment to listen to my floor speech which discusses the very real life implications of this important legislation.”
