Governor Jay Inslee will sign House Bill 1506, the Equal Pay Opportunity Act, this Wednesday, March 21st, at 10:30 a.m.
The bill signing ceremony will be held in the Governor’s Conference Room at the State Capitol.
The Equal Pay Opportunity Act, prime sponsored by Rep. Tana Senn, D-Mercer Island, and co-sponsored by thirty other lawmakers, will make it easier for women to talk about their earnings with co-workers, and will ensure there’s no backlash for employees who discuss their wages or who ask for equal pay.
Senn’s legislation updates the Washington Equal Pay Act for the first time since its passage in 1943.
Representatives Beth Doglio, Jake Fey, Christine Kilduff, John Lovick, Tina Orwall, and Vandana Slatter, among other legislators, will be in attendance.
Also attending will be representatives from MomsRising, Washington Technology Industry Association, Economic Opportunity Institute, Legal Voice, UFCW & Labor Council, and Washington students.
