Friends and neighbors,
Last week, dozens of armed demonstrators roamed the capitol and legislative buildings with long guns and tactical gear, scaring school children, families and visitors. Access to the Capitol is a fundamental part of this democracy. Our democracy. If anything threatens that, I will speak out and seek to make changes. That is why I introduced a bill this week to ban the open carry of guns on the capitol campus. While time has run out to move the policy forward this session, I am committed to working during the interim to ensure we can pass this policy next year so all can access our democracy without fear or intimidation.
