I am also thrilled to share my recent op-ed in The Seattle Times, co-written with Tim Motts, President and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Bellevue. In the article, we shed light on the often-overlooked issue of poverty in Bellevue, a city known for its affluence. I encourage you to read the full op-ed to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by our communityBeyond the skyline: Bellevue’s silent struggle with poverty.

Capital Budget at Work in Our District

Last month, I had the honor of helping cut the ribbon at the grand opening of the remodeled Lake Hills Clubhouse, operated by Boys & Girls Clubs of Bellevue. This home-away-from-home for hundreds of kids in the neighborhood was remodeled in part thanks to a $750,000 grant from the state.

The capital budget also played a crucial role in funding both the restoration of the drooping dock in the photo below and the completion of a trail gap along CrossTown Trail at Lake Boren Park in Newcastle. Last week, I joined Mayor Linda Newing, Deputy Mayor Ariana Sherlock, Sen. Lisa Wellman, and staff to observe the work underway on these projects made possible thanks to the capital budget!

If you have suggestions or proposals for local projects that could benefit from state funding, please reach out to my office and let me know! Your input will help us advocate for the resources needed to make these projects in our communities a reality.
