Welcome to the 2025 Legislative Session

Dear Neighbors,

Here’s to rewarding new year as we embark on the 2025 legislative session. As your State Representative, I’m honored to continue working on the issues that matter most to our community and the state of Washington. Here are some of the priorities I on this session, along with updates on how you can stay engaged.

Building on Success: Wildfire and Forest Health

Over the past few years, we’ve made significant strides in protecting Washington’s natural resources, particularly through wildfire prevention and forest health initiatives. I sponsored House Bill 1168 which passed in 2021 and has played a key role in reducing wildfire risk and promoting long-term forest resilience.

This session, I’ll continue to prioritize these efforts by:

  • Monitoring the implementation of HB 1168.
  • Sharing the latest data from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) that highlights the program’s effectiveness.

For example, since the passage of HB 1168, thousands of acres of forest have been treated to reduce wildfire risk, protecting both our environment and our communities, we have been able to control over 90% of wildfire outbreaks within 10 acres!

Addressing Budget Challenges

As a member of both the Finance and Appropriations Committees, much of my time this session will be dedicated to managing the state’s budget. While we face a budget challenge, it’s important to note that this is indeed a challenge; not a crisis. My focus will be on ensuring that we:

  • Meet our obligations to K-12 education.
  • Invest in long-term solutions for housing, healthcare, and infrastructure.

I look forward to working collaboratively with my colleagues to make thoughtful and equitable budget decisions that reflect the values of our district and our state.
