OLYMPIA – Monday, the Washington State House of Representatives passed House Bill 1080, protecting Washington residents from surprise fees and taxes when booking a hotel stay or other lodging.
Sponsored by Rep. Brandy Donaghy, D-Mill Creek, HB 1080, requires all fees charged by lodging accommodations to be disclosed in the advertised, displayed, or offered room rate, except for taxes and government fees, which must be included in the total price before a guest reserves a stay.
“There’s nothing worse than making a reservation, thinking you’re going to have a great vacation, and finding out that there are additional fees tacked on to every activity that you do on the property,” Donaghy said. “It’s really important that we make sure that fees are transparent, so people know what they’re getting into before they make the decision.”
House Bill 1080 now moves to the Senate for consideration.
