Week 6 Legislative Update & Upcoming Town Hall

Dear neighbors,

The WA Legislature passed the halfway mark last week! From tackling key issues to making sure your voices are heard, it’s been a very productive five and a half weeks. To learn more about the work being done to address your priorities, join Rep. Cortes and I for a town hall this Friday, Feb 16th, at 5:30 pm at the Everett Labor Temple!

Video Update

Just last week, my colleagues and I voted unanimously to pass House Bill 1976 to the Senate. The legislation offers greater incentives to building owners to upgrade their properties to meet the Clean Buildings Performance Standard (CBPS).

This will make significant efficiency upgrades more financially feasible for building owners, ultimately leading to deeper energy savings and reduced carbon emissions. To learn more, watch my most recent video here or by clicking on the image below.

Honoring A Statesman

Senator John McCoy was an incredible leader in our community. Though humble, he championed education and tribal rights, leaving a legacy that continues to inspire change. I am grateful to have gotten the opportunity to visit with him during his final days and express how thankful so many in our community are for the work that he has done, his great advocacy for our community, and his public service.

Rep. Cortes and I are honored to remember Senator McCoy with House Bill 1879. This legislation will rename the curriculum used to inform students about tribal history, culture, and government after Senator McCoy’s traditional name, lulilaš. You can watch the House advance this bill to the Senate by clicking here or on the image below.

Become A Page

This is Sam Browne. He served as a House Page for our office a couple weeks ago! It was a joy sponsoring Sam. He has a bright future ahead of him! A few fun facts about Sam: he enjoys camping, gaming, and I’ve heard is a stellar soccer player.

Rep. Fosse with Page Sam Browne. Feb. 1, 2024.

While Sam was in Olympia, he helped support the daily operations of the legislature, drafted his own bills, received daily civics education, and more. If you know a young person aged 14-16 who may be interested in serving as a legislative page next year, share this link with them!
