Efforts to bring COVID-19 relief to undocumented workers gain traction
Undocumented immigrants are among the most impacted as COVID-19 sends the country into an economic slump, yet they are being left out of stimulus efforts. Activists are asking federal, state and local governments to set aside money to help people like Carlos, who are out of work and not eligible for unemployment benefits or emergency relief funds. But while the effort is receiving some support in Seattle, it has yet to catch on in Olympia. Continue reading at Crosscut. (Dorothy Edwards)

Health Care Advocates Push Back Against Trump’s Erasure of Transgender Rights
Health advocates representing American hospitals, medical groups, insurers and civil rights associations condemned the Trump administration on Saturday for rolling back protections for transgender patients, and for doing so amid a global pandemic. The new rule, long sought by conservatives and the religious right, narrows the legal definition of sex discrimination in the Affordable Care Act so that it omits protection for transgender people. It also opens the door for health care providers to refuse to treat patients who have had abortions. Continue reading at The New York Times. (Michael Reynolds)

For Black community organizers in Seattle, Juneteenth 2020 a celebration and a call to action
In recent days, TraeAnna Holiday, among others, has been busier than ever, organizing a Juneteenth rally and march in Seattle in just two weeks. Juneteenth, which commemorates the end of slavery in the U.S., has been observed by African Americans since the late 1800s as a celebration of freedom and resilience. It marks the day — June 19, 1865, about two months after the end of the Civil War and two years after the Emancipation Proclamation — when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, were informed that they were free.
