WA lawmakers seek to make fashion friendlier to the environment

That new pair of jeans you’ve been eyeing won’t only cost your wallet but the planet too. Luckily, there is a pair of bills that would promote transparency and hold the fashion industry accountable for its negative impacts on the environment. House Bill 2068 and Senate Bill 5965 seek to create a balance between looking good and taking care of the planet. The bills — sponsored by Rep. Sharlett Mena, D-Tacoma, and Sen. Joe Nguyễn, D-White Center — would require corporations with a gross income of more than $100 million worldwide to publicly disclose where they source and manufacture their products and set targets to reduce emissions to meet environmental goals.
