On Friday, a state House Committee will first hear a bill that could make December 12 “Day of the 12s” in honor of Seahawks fans, who are known as the 12s. This past season, the Seahawks celebrated the 40-year anniversary of the retirement of the 12 jersey, that was retired to honor the fanbase. On December 15, 1984, the Seahawks became the first professional sports teams to retire a jersey in honor of their fans, because the fans had been an instrumental part of the Seahawks organization since its inception.
The bill reads, “The legislature finds that Washington is home to the loudest, most passionate, and greatest sports fans on earth. Known as the 12s, Seattle Seahawks fans are so loud and so present, that they feel like an extra player on the field. Since 1976, the 12s have packed out, first the Kingdome and now Lumen Field, to support the Hawks.
