First-term Representative Melanie Morgan named to House Rules Committee

OLYMPIA – Less than two months after being elected Deputy Majority Floor Leader, Rep. Melanie Morgan (D-Tacoma) was appointed to the House Rules Committee on the first day of session.

“The Rules Committee determines what legislation gets considered for debate and a vote by the body of the House of Representatives,” said Rep. Morgan. “In that role, I will support my colleagues to build teamwork and cooperation.”

As a member of the Rules Committee and as Deputy Majority Floor Leader, Rep. Morgan will influence the flow of legislation considered on the House floor. She will serve alongside new Speaker and Rules Committee Chair Laurie Jinkins.

Rep. Morgan’s other committees include Capital Budget, Commerce & Gaming, and Housing, Community Development & Veterans, on which she serves as Vice Chair. She is the Chair of the first Black Members Caucus in the state of Washington. She also serves on the Members of Color Caucus and the Office of Equity Task Force.

Elected in 2018, Rep. Morgan is starting her second session representing the 29th legislative district.
