E-Newsletter: Welcome back to Olympia and the new female majority House Democratic Caucus

Dear friends and neighbors,

I am so excited to be back in Olympia for the first week of our 105-day legislative session!  I am honored to serve the 33rd legislative district for my 6th term as your state representative.

Hear about some of my legislative priorities in this week’s “Ask Tina” video update. We try to post an “Ask Tina” video every other week, so make sure you contact my office with your questions and concerns.

It was a busy first week, and I was once again reelected as deputy speaker pro tempore by the House Democratic Caucus. I am grateful for my colleagues’ continued support and confidence, and for entrusting me with the responsibilities of this position.

This session feels particularly special, as it is the first time in years that we have a female majority in our caucus (there’s 30 of us!), and that includes 11 women of color. You can read about them here. I am proud to say that Washington’s legislature now ranks fourth in the nation for gender parity, and I look forward to serving with all these strong, talented and hard-working women from across our state.

In addition to presiding over the House Floor actions, I will also serve on the following committees:

Finally, I would like to introduce the newest member of my team, Connor Kelley. Connor is my talented UW graduate social work intern. We are so fortunate to have an intern from UW’s internationally renowned School of Social Work for the last several years to help with policy research. Connor’s main policy interests are in in child welfare and juvenile justice reform.

Thank you for reading my newsletter. As always, please send any questions or concerns to my office.

My best,
