Making Dual Enrollment Programs Accessible to Everyone

Friends,

Dual-enrollment programs, like College in the High School and Running Start, are some of the most effective options we have for reducing college expenses and the burden of student debt. These programs cost a fraction of what traditional college classes do, saving students and their families hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Dual-enrollment programs can help create paths to better-paying jobs with lower student debt.

Last year, I sponsored a pilot program for dual-enrollment scholarships. If this legislation is implemented on a broader basis, it will help working families across our state by allowing them better access to College in the High School and Running Start. Our neighbors and friends will be able to accelerate their education as a result.

This session I plan to keep my commitment to strengthening College in the High School, Running Start, and CTE Dual Credit so more young people can take advantage of these terrific resources. In the meantime, you can find out more about these great programs at www.k12.wa.us/student-success/support-programs/dual-credit-programs.

The holiday season is an excellent time for families to discuss these programs with their students. Also, if you have students who will be enrolled in college next year, it’s a great time to complete the FAFSA or WAFSA. You can learn more about financial aid options in Washington State at https://readysetgrad.wa.gov/college/washington-state-financial-aid-programs.

I hope you have a wonderful holiday season. Please reach out if you have any thoughts, ideas, or questions.

Thanks again,

Rep. Dave Paul
