Rep. Bill Ramos, D-Issaquah, gives an update on one of the Public Safety bills passed out of the House to address transparency and accountability in law enforcement. His HB 1089, Ramos explains, is necessary because after a deadly force incident, what people want to know is what happened. Currently, an investigation takes place to determine what really happened and how. Ramos’ bill goes further by requiring an audit to make sure the investigation followed appropriate policies and protocols. This bill is about checking to see if the job was done properly.
