Who: Rep. Lillian Ortiz-Self, D-Mukilteo, Rep. Derek Stanford, D-Bothell, and members of the House and Senate Democratic caucuses
What: Press Conference
When: Wednesday, February 15, 12:30 – 1:00 p.m.
Where: House Democratic Caucus Room, Legislative Building
Why: In response to the recent presidential executive order regarding travel restrictions, House Democrats are moving legislation at the state level to protect all Washingtonians. HB 2029, sponsored by Rep. Ortiz-Self, would provide a hotline for those seeking information and assistance for immigration and citizenship related matters. HB 2097, sponsored by Rep. Stanford, would limit disclosure by state or local government agencies about the religious affiliation of individuals. Both bills are scheduled for executive session in the House Judiciary committee on February 16, 2017. Reps. Stanford and Ortiz-Self, together with members of the House and Senate Democratic Caucuses, will hold a press conference about these proposals and why they reflect Washington’s values.
