Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Over the last couple of months, our ferry system has experience unprecedented service disruptions and far too many canceled sailings. Coming from a part of the world that depends on our state’s marine highway system to travel to work, school, medical appointments, or simply a Seahawks game, these service disruptions are unacceptable. They are not just a matter of inconvenience but can seriously impact the lives and livelihoods of all of us who rely on it.
Along with my fellow legislators from Kitsap County we have been pushing the Washington State Ferries for solutions and making sure that our colleagues from non-ferry districts understand how vital the ferry system is. The fact is that our ferry system faces some long-term, structural problems, problems that have only been worsened by the pandemic. Before we return to Olympia, we want to hear from you and give you a chance to ask questions. Over the next two weeks, we will be hosting two ferry specific town halls with staff from Washington State Ferries to answer your specific questions. The first town hall will focus on the Bremerton & Southworth ferry runs on Tuesday, November 23 at 6:30 PM. You can register here. The second will focus on the Bainbridge and Kingston ferry runs and will take place on Tuesday, November 30 at 5:30 PM. You can register here.
Please share these events with other ferry riders. I look forward to hearing from you and hopefully getting some of your questions answered.
Sincerely,
Rep. Tarra Simmons
