Week 5 Update: Happy Lunar New Year, Upcoming Townhall, & Protecting Reproductive Rights

Hi friends and neighbors,

We’re already at the halfway point of the 2024 legislative session, and your voice is making a difference! We’re tackling crucial issues like strengthening economic security for families, increasing access to affordable housing, and safeguarding reproductive healthcare rights.

Celebrating the Year of the Dragon!

This Saturday, our diverse Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities welcome the Year of the Dragon on Lunar New Year! This powerful symbol embodies strength, leadership, and prosperity. Excitingly, my bill, HB 2209, recently passed the House and is now in the Senate, aiming to make Lunar New Year an official legislatively recognized holiday. I am wishing you a celebration filled with delicious food, shared traditions, and good fortune in the year ahead!

Reproductive Freedom: Standing Strong Against Restrictions

Time and again, Washington Legislative Republicans have tried to downplay the threat to reproductive rights in our state. Behind their assurances, however, lies a different story – Washington Republicans have introduced more than 40 bills since 2016 aimed at restricting abortion and reproductive care rights.

But we won’t back down. My colleagues and I are standing strong, blocking these restrictive bills, and passing laws to protect those seeking reproductive care, our healthcare providers, and your private healthcare data.

One such bill being considered this year is HB 2115, which would protect abortion medication providers from harassment and violence by replacing their names or the clinic name on medication packaging with a provider identification number. This bill will help providers in Washington know that they are supported in their work and will allow them to focus on providing care. To learn more about this bill, click here or on the image above.

Let’s be clear: my colleagues and I are steadfast in our commitment to defending your reproductive freedom in Washington state. Take a look and learn more about our work.
