Legislative News: Washington state has a new Speaker of the House

Dear friends and neighbors,

Today, the House Democratic Caucus selected a new Speaker of the House for the first time in two decades.

I would like to congratulate new Speaker-designate Laurie Jinkins on becoming the new leader of the Washington State House of Representatives. I look forward to working with Speaker-designate Laurie Jinkins on the many issues which affect people across our state.

With a new Speaker, there is great opportunity to continue building authentic relationships across all levels of our government, our tribal nations and international community to make our world work better for actual people.

I also want to extend thanks to former Speaker of the House, Rep. Frank Chopp, who led the House as Speaker for 20 years. Under his leadership, Rep. Chopp led with values that brought communities together, and put the people of Washington state first.

Looking toward the future of Speaker-designate Laurie Jinkins’ leadership, we will rise together as one Washington, because working together as one is what the future of our state looks like.

Chopp, Lekanoff

In service,

Lekanoff sig
